Ruby, the Red Blood Cell: An Adventure Story

Have you met Ruby, the red blood cell? Well, she or he (we aren't entirely sure...) has a very important role in the human circulatory system! Just by taking a breath you are contributing to the life and work of Ruby.

The students of Room 28 have learning about his/her role and travels. Pay close attention to discover the various parts of the circulatory system. Read the comments to see what adventures lie ahead for this small, but vital part of the human body experience!

Poetry in the Making

Room 28 has been hard at work on their own poetic works of art. We have explored the power of similes and metaphors to communicate incredibly vivid descriptions with just a few words. Carl Sandburg's piece, "Theme In Yellow", helped us to learn the value of line breaks in the ways they can create, or even deconstruct, meaning.

Though our journey is far from over in this unit, read the comments attached to this post to see what students have been writing. Our intention is to share some of this work in a classroom Poetry Slam. Check out the video below to see a sample of what this might look like. If you have not seen spoken word before, you are in for a real treat!

Take a moment to applaud their bravery and courage to share their written word. And of course, as a class, we thank you for visiting!

Our MOCA Trip

Families and Guests,

Some of you may have heard that Room 28 and Room 22 will be starting a new project-based learning piece. The working title is "What is Art?". During the project, students will get to create their own collection of art. Then, they will take on the role of museum curator and design their own exhibition to be shared with you and our local community at the end of May.

Here are some photos from the trip to MOCA Grand that will help us begin to think about those two ideas. As you can tell... we had a lot of fun!

If you have additional photos that you wish to add to the slideshow, email them to me and I will make sure that they are included.
